DMPlayer - The Diskless Media Player^*

"There are many HTPC interfaces out there, but this one is mine..."

DMPlayer (or DMPlayer, DMP, dmp,...) is a media player designed to run as a full screen application on your TV screen, to play media files on your desktop or your fileserver as easy as playing a DVD. The hard work is done by MPlayer, and, increasingly, by GStreamer.

^* (runs also fine off a local hard disk ;-)

Update 2007: The package repository that used to live here is gone, I am working on a (cross)compiling environment which generates a small (<64MB) netboot/iso/compactflash image containing Linux, X.Org, MPlayer and everything dmplayer needs.

• TV-Out via X.Org and TV-Out capable Video card (I recommend GeForce2 class nVidia cards)
• 2x20 LCD Display

Build Requirements

DMP was tested on

• Ubuntu 6.04 (Dapper Drake) AMD64
• Ubuntu 6.04 (Dapper Drake) i386
• Debian "Etch" (testing)
• NetBSD 3.99 (CVS)

Absolutely required

• X11 libraries
• libcdaudio (>= 0.99)
• id3lib (>= 3.8.3)
• Imlib2 (>= 1.2.1)

Very Recommended

• MPlayer (>= 1.0pre6)
• gstreamer0.10 (>= 0.10.0) and
  
glibmm (>= 2.4)

Without at least one of these, dmplayer is almost useless!

Optional

• LIRC (for Infrared remote control)
• libjsw (for Joystick control)
